Summary: The band 8eight debuted on August 25, 2007. There are three members: Lee Hyun, Baek Chan, and Joo Hee. They’re known for their voices and smooth ballads. Hyun has worked with 2AM’s ChangMin and together they have a sub-unit called Homme. Their name, 8eight, symbolizes eternity, as an 8 turned on its side looks like an “infinity” symbol (∞). On December 21, 2014, the group announced their decision to temporarily disband. Find their discography here.
There’s not much to say about 8eight. Velexa and I are madly in love with Hyun, and BaekChan and JooHee are followed closely behind. We didn’t really hear about them until their song “The End is Coming,” which came out while we were in Korea, and we really liked it. We’ve liked every song since then, so yeah, they’re good. They are ballad, though, and I know some of my friends don’t really like ballads, so a couple upbeat songs I can suggest are “Availability Period” and “Close Your Lips.”

Summary: 2PM debuted with their song 10 Points Out of 10 on September 4, 2008. The group originally consisted of seven members, but after a controversy, Park JaeBum departed from the group (and country) in 2009 and has now returned to Korea as a solo singer. Instead of going for the “pretty boy” look that was popular during the time, JYP Entertainment instead decided to go for a more manly image, earning the 2PM boys the titles of “짐승돌,” or “Beast-dols”/“Beast Idols” in English. The group now consists of leader Taekyeon, Nichkhun, Junsu, WooYoung, JunHo, and ChanSung. They’ve faced a lot of success, and are currently working in Japan. Find their discography here.
As I mentioned with 2AM, I really wasn’t into Beast idols when they first debuted. I was a bit upset because I was getting really into them finally and… JaeBum leaves. However, I immediately fell for the Thai cutie known as Nichkhun. Velexa loved Taekyeon. Mind you, this was back in 2009. These days, we both love all the members, and every so often when I feel like Nichkhun is too popular, I happily give love to the less represented members such as Junsu and JunHo. We easily grew to love the (Jun)HoButt, the snarky maknae, and Junsu’s sexy vocals. I think it helped Wild Bunny was still playing on television while we were there. You can now find JaeBum’s information here. We fell in love with them most when we got to see them at Inkigayo (Popular Song) live. WooYoung noticed Velexa because of her hair, and told the other three present members. All we seem to remember from their passing us is Nichkhun’s arm. However, we also enjoyed watching Taekyeon off-screen (he’s adorable), as well as the “live WooKhun” we got to see since WooYoung’s mic wasn’t working and Nichkhun let him use his.

Summary: 2AM debuted on July 11, 2008 with their song “This Song.” The group consists of four members, Lee ChangMin, Im SeulOng, Jo Kwon, and Jung JinWoon. Jo Kwon became popular for having spent about eight years in training. They originally going to be a part of an eleven member boy band called One Day, but the groups were split into 2AM, who performs ballads, and 2PM, who performs dance tracks. The entire One Day group made their television debut through the reality show “Hot Blooded Men.” Find 2AM’s discography here.
When 2AM and PM first debuted, I personally wasn’t interested in either of them. That’s because I was crazy. At the time, I was not really into the muscular men, and preferred the flower boys to the beast-dols. Plus, even after I learned 2PM, I still wasn’t crazy about ballads. Sure, I had 2AM’s music, but I rarely listened to it. The song that really got me to like them was probably “I Did Wrong.” I really, really liked JinWoon (note he’s the “prettiest” one in the group). Since that time in late 2009, I’ve grown to appreciate the deliciousness of beast idols, and even ChangMin, who both Velexa and I considered fugliness stuck on a nice body, has grown on us. We can even consider him attractive when he has his shirt on now. For people not used to ballads, 2AM may take a bit of time to grow on you, but they’re really talented and good-looking. More upbeat songs of theirs I especially like are, as I mentioned before, “I Did Wrong;” a song featuring 2PM’s ChanSung, “To Her;” as well as “No. 1” and “With or Without U.”

While the band started off in SM Entertainment, in 2003, they left the company and moved to Good Entertainment. The members have done their own solos, as well as ventured into acting and creating their own boy band, Battle, who crawled in a hole and died. Find the group’s discography here.
Shinhwa was one our first bands. We really got into them after hearing their songs “Once In a Lifetime” and “Brand New.” While we’ve kind of ignored their older stuff, we do like “eusha eusha,” especially after watching a live where Shinhwa realized they couldn’t keep up with their younger songs. We don’t really watch a lot of videos with them (though we love seeing X-Man every so often for memories), and we only watch the music videos once, maybe twice. We love Run, and we love every comeback they’ve done since getting out of the military to blow the rookies out of the water.
